THE CHALLENGE

Following a shareholder proposal approved in 2022, The Home Depot committed to publishing a report detailing its wood-sourcing practices and approach to sustainable forestry. The content was legally sensitive, data-heavy, and largely complete, but it needed to become a clear, credible, and publication-ready report by the end of fiscal year 2023.

The challenge was to make complex sourcing data, policy commitments, and compliance information easier to navigate without compromising the accuracy or seriousness of the content.

Project Overview

I partnered with Ben Thorpe, who served as Senior Corporate Counsel, to transform the original manuscript into a polished 16-page Sustainable Forestry Report.

I developed the report’s editorial structure, page layouts, visual hierarchy, and branded design system while incorporating existing maps, data visualizations, photography, legal disclosures, and supporting resources. Interactive navigation, including a linked table of contents and persistent section navigation, allows readers to move easily throughout the report.

The final publication presents detailed legal, environmental, and sourcing information in a format that feels clear, approachable, and consistent with The Home Depot brand.
