THE CHALLENGE
The BiT Awards is The Home Depot’s annual Best in Technology Awards ceremony, recognizing individuals and teams whose innovation and impact advance the company’s technology organization.
With six to eight award categories and an audience of thousands of technology associates across North America, the event required a comprehensive visual experience that made recognition feel meaningful, aspirational, and worthy of the associates being celebrated.
Each year, the BiT Awards established a new theme that needed to be translated into a distinct creative concept without losing the familiarity and credibility the program had built over time. The identity also had to scale consistently across communications, presentations, video, motion graphics, printed materials, and the physical awards environment; while remaining flexible enough to support changing themes, categories, and production needs.
Project Overview
PROJECT OVERVIEW
From 2016 through 2026, I shaped the BiT Awards into a cohesive recognition experience for The Home Depot’s technology organization. Each year, I translated the leadership committee’s theme into a visual identity spanning nominations, event communications, presentations, signage, certificates, motion graphics, and promotional videos.
Beginning in 2023, I led a collaborative creative process, providing oversight while continuing to design key assets. In 2024, my focus shifted primarily to motion graphics and animation, including category transitions, award sequences, and video content that brought each year’s theme to life.
Meet Lil BiT
CHARACTER DESIGN & BRANDING
I created Lil Bit for the 2024 BiT Awards, which centered on artificial intelligence. As The Home Depot began introducing generative AI to associates, Lil Bit gave the theme a friendly and approachable personality.
Designed as an android-inspired mascot, Lil Bit became the face of the event and a flexible brand element that could scale across digital communications, presentations, motion graphics, and the awards ceremony.
Fun Fact: Lil Bit is voiced by Amy Dorfman, Senior Producer for HDTV, who also provides the familiar voice heard at The Home Depot’s self-checkout registers.
